“José Celestino Mutis” Botanical garden

On August 6, 1955 the park was established in honor of José Celestino Mutis by the father Enrique Perez Arbelaez. The park is summarized every major part of the flora of the Colombian savannah, with a living space of 20 hectares for learning and research every major part of it. This is cataloged throughout Latin America as one of the most important since it has the highest biodiversity in flora.




The garden has various projects such as urban agriculture, tree planting, green terraces enter the other, and activities of interest such as the butterfly and the exposure of orchids which are very delicious as they only occur in certain seasons, also is the science kids club where children can learn everyday care of the environment and their need in every area of ​​our daily lives.





At the moment you travel the garden, don’t forget to visit these places:
The tropicarium because It’s an amazing place where the different spaces and thermal floors became mixed, you can appreciate since the desertical weather of the Guajira to the savage weathers of the Amazonas in a whole place.





The herbarium, where you can find the medical plants, aromatic and the flavoring between ‘caléndula, ají, limonaria, manzanilla, etc.’ whom were been used to cook, to heal by our ancients and they’re used actually on some places of Colombia.


The rose bushes because you can admire and expect their beauty taking different pictures of them and have a really good time with your family. Nearly you can visit our national symbol flo the orchid, without passing of the ‘Palma de Cera’ they’re so few, ‘cause their natural environment it’s on Salento (Quindío) where the native weather it’s a little bit so warm.



The objective of the garden it’s to defend, to aware and to protect the ecosystems, in a way that the population learns the importance of them and help to their improvement, to recognize the problems that are fading the environment and the different kind of solutions we can apply in the society.

You can see different areas of recovering which are so raped by the aggressive weather changes and the global heating, a clear but afraid example of this it’s the terrible drought that it’s faced by the main pond of the botanical garden, whom pushed the ducks that habituated it to get displaced, but don’t care, the ducks are protected by the personal of this beautiful garden.


José Celestino Mutis botanical garden it’s the perfect place to live the best experience of peace and harmony with the nature, and you don’t have to leave the city!, come on! We invite you to get a ride in this amazing place!.
